RAD Propulsion, Zero Marine and RS Electric Boats to support Oxford and Cambridge 2025 Boat Race

12 April 2025 – RAD Propulsion, Zero Marine and RS Electric Boats are joining forces to support the prestigious Boat Race 2025. The companies will provide two Pulse 63 electric vessels, powered by RAD 40 drives, to serve as chase boats, marking the start of a new sustainable future for the event.

As the historic Boat Race embraces greener technology, RAD’s electric propulsion systems will be instrumental in ensuring a quieter, emission free race day environment. The Pulse 63, an all electric RIB, is powered by RAD’s cutting-edge RAD 40 electric drive system, offering superior efficiency, reliability, and performance.

With the backing of the Port of London Authority, the introduction of RAD powered electric vessels to the race sets a precedent for greater electrification on the Thames.

“We are excited to see our technology play a role in one of the UK’s most iconic sporting events,” said Dan Hook, CEO of RAD Propulsion. “This collaboration is just the beginning, which we hope results in seeing a growing number of electric vessels on the Thames in the coming years.”

The zero-emission Pulse 63 vessels will be deployed on race day with a crew that includes skippers, umpires, and 247.tv live stream camera operators. They will provide essential race support, escorting the competing teams and ensuring seamless event operations.

“We are incredibly proud to see the Pulse 63 electric RIBs supporting such an iconic sporting event” said Alex Newton-Southon, CEO of RS Electric Boats. “Together we are demonstrating how electric propulsion can enhance performance and reliability while promoting cleaner waterways for future generations.”

Paul Clarke, Zero Marine CEO who will be driving on the day said: “It is a privilege to support such an iconic race. We provide net zero marine services to clients in the construction and media industry. This is a great first step towards a more sustainable boat race and we hope more and more of the support boats will be electric in years to come.”

With an increasing focus on sustainability in the maritime industry, RAD Propulsion’s involvement in the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race represents a key milestone in the transition to cleaner waterways.
